An Introduction to Value, Gradients and Paint control

This 2 part video series was created to get students started working at home or on their own in learning the very basics of oil painting.  This is a classical realism technique that is aimed at students who desire to learn to paint in the realism tradition.  However, I have found it is a great tool to learn how the paint mixes, handles and offers a way to learn to control the paint. Even if your style is more loose or expressionistic, any method that aims towards representational painting – or trying to look like a recognizable object – this method is an excellent lesson.
